Abstract. The distribution network supplying large industrial loads or electric power network inside industrial complex are points where power quality degradation is specialy expressed. The paper gives an short overview of power quality survey studies and projects in the past twenty years. The main attention has been paid to voltage vaweform distortation. Some characteristic results of harmonics and voltage sag survey study conducted in network of Electric Industry of Serbia, are presented. The negative effects are discussed and some corrective measures are proposed. An overall solution – universal power quality conditioning system is brifely described.

Abstract. This paper presents preliminary results of a project on the integration of web supported data mining techniques with fuzzy logic and neural networks to support decision-making and improve product development processes.  The integrated environment is based on CORBA and used a modular structure.  The system is particularly appropriate for sustainable product design, which takes account of environmental and social impacts in addition to technical, reliability and cost factors.

Abstract. Two significant problems have surfaced in video supervised security systems. There have been challenges associated with motion detection in Closed Circuit Television and the security system’s recognition of human 3D faces. We have developed a system that secures the protected area with satisfactory results while minimizing false alarms. We try to use in detection of human faces the conversion of 2D video-images in simulate 3D objects. For human face images the reconstruct of 3D object result in a virtual 3D human head. The object of this application is to compare this virtual human head with other virtual objects from a database and the decision of this process must be interpret from the central unit of security system.

AN APPROACH IN DISTRIBUTED APPLICATION DESIGN – LOCAL LOAD PREDICTION

Mihai Horia Zaharia

Bd-ul Mangeron Nr. 53. A Iasi 6600
mike@cs.tuiasi.ro

Abstract. The optimal load-balancing problem is always new in distributed system development. There are many theoretical and practical approaches. Because of various restrictions, which are imposed, this can be considered a NP problem, because it is virtually impossible at this hour to reach an global theoretical approach. This paper proposes a new way in the scheduler design for distributed systems on Microsoft based operating system platforms.

DATABASE DESIGN AND QUERY PROCESSING IN DISTRIBUTED DATABASES

Florin RÃDULESCU
Computer Science Department, "Politehnica" University of Bucharest
Splaiul Independentei 313, sector 6, Bucharest
florin@cs.pub.ro

Abstract. The simplest way that one can think about processing a query in a distributed database is to send the query to every node and then integrate the local results. Unfortunately in many cases this approach is not a valid one. But if we enforce some restriction can it become valid? The paper presents a concept called similarly  structured  distributed  databases (SSDDB) that validate this processing method for a large class of queries. The paper presents also some query processing algorithms and methodologies for this type of distributed databases.

Abstract. In the paper is presented the results of the designing, simulation and performance evaluation of a VLIW processor. First, we made a short description of the VLIW architecture. Second, we design a VLIW processor with an instruction on 432 bits, capable to execute in parallel 13 operations. Then, we show how it could simulate a new structure using HDL languages. Finally, there are presented some results referred to the VLIW processor performance versus a PowerPC processor performance. The conclusions show the advantages of using VLIW processors into digital systems to increase the system speedup and throughput.

AN EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH FOR STUDY OF HEAT DISSIPATION FROM THE SURFACE OF SMALL ELECTRICAL MACHINES

Akbar KHODAPARAST-HAGHI
University of  Guilan
P.O.BOX 3756
Rasht, Iran

Abstract. Designing electrical machines requires multidisciplinary skills. Engineers must not only be expert in electromagnetic design, but also in the modes of heat dissipation from the surface of electrical machines. The scope of this brief paper is limited to thermal considerations and the main objective is only to outline a technique for study of heat dissipation from the surface of small electrical machines which may be useful at the initial design stage. This brief outline of the method indicates the usefulness of the optico-mechanical scanning pyrometer and infrared camera, targeting potential users.

Abstract. This paper reviewed theoretical and practical aspects of growing silicon single-crystal from the melt with emphasis on the formation of line defects and techniques used for eliminating line defects. The factors contributing to microscopic inhomogeneities have been reviewed. This work illustrates techniques to improve the axial doping homogeneity and trends in technology of silicon crystal growth dictated by evolution of semiconductor devices.

Str. Garii.no. 7, RO-5800, Suceava

Abstract. The different states of the system man-machine can have different effects in the exploitation of the railway transport system characterized through the multifold and complex management. Often the technological malfunction in a certain point of the system calls for measures to limit or eliminate the effects in other points. The present article proposes a mathematical model for evaluating the system man-machine in the railway transport in order to prevent the above mentioned situations.

Abstract. In this report is presented an approach to the modelling of the knowledge-based enterprise, in the aim of designing and implementing it by NITC’s system. The paper outlines the main idea for an architecture of an artificial Knowledge Management System dedicated to organisational Knowledge Management. An effective KMS must ensure that the right knowledge will be at right time in the right place in the right quantity and quality.
